We wish all of our families a very Happy New Year! We would like to thank everyone for their support and help in all of our Christmas activities. The children and the pre-kindergarten staff really appreciate all of your work. During the months of January and February, we will be studying eight different themes. During our first theme, we will study opposites in the theme entitled “Good Morning, Good Night”. In “Winter Wonders”, the children will observe ice melting, learn about various animals and how they behave in the winter, explore winter clothing, and observe changes in nature. In the next unit entitled “Art & Artists”, the students will observe, manipulate, and experiment with the processes and products of artists. Music and movement will be enjoyed in our classroom throughout the unit “Making Music”. Next, the students will be learning about kindness to animals and some of the responsibilities that a person has when he/she has pets during “Pet Parade”. In the unit “Ways to Say I Love You”, we will be discussing different ways to communicate. During the theme “Highlighting Heritage”, we will focus on expanding the children’s concepts of family and unique family cultures. This theme celebrates our differences as well as our similarities. Lastly, we will be studying things that they can do to “Stay Safe”. They will be studying fire safety, things that are unsafe to touch and things that they can do to protect themselves. Throughout these units, we will be emphasizing the following skills: AB patterns, writing first names, building sets of objects, letter recognition, identifying the initial sound in a word, telling a story in sequence and answering questions related to the story. Please continue to read to your child daily and ask him/her questions about the story. Thanks for all your support. Mrs. Sorrells |

Happy New Year!!! We would like to report our kindergartners have already started the “New Year” off with some very impressive test scores. Teachers, administrators and even our State Superintendent of Schools, Nancy Grasmick, were thrilled with their progress. Your child has been bringing home a Shared KinderRoots Story Book. It is very important that he/she continue to practice reading these books at home. This will help him/her to become a more fluent reader (reading with accuracy and expression). We would like for you to encourage your child to sound out and blend together the words that are difficult for him/her to read. To ensure the success of each student, we are providing small group rotations to focus on reading strategies and skills to meet the student’s identified needs. If you have any questions or concerns about our reading program, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers. In Math we are continuing to develop numeric awareness by creating and naming sets of 1-14 object. Your child is also learning how to identify and create a set that is more than or less than a given number. As always, we would like to thank you for your continued support. We are truly amazed with the progress that all of our students have made since the beginning of the year. “ Go Kindergartner!” Keep up the good work. Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Elliott and Mrs. Cook |
