Happy 2008 to all!!!  We can’t believe how quickly this school year is passing us by.  We are quietly approaching the halfway mark for this year.  Thanks to all parents/guardians for your continued support of us here at Choptank.  Please continue to stress the importance of home-work completion each night.  The nightly reading and math are paying off in big ways.  We have just completed reading testing with our students and we are very pleased with the progress our students are making.  Approximately 75% of kindergarten students met the benchmark goal on their reading tests.  That means 3 out of every 4 students are well on their way to becoming great readers!  5th grade students showed on the average of greater than 1 year’s growth on the StarMath test that was taken when they returned from the holiday break.  WOW!!! As you can see what you do at home to encourage your child with homework along with daily instruction here at Choptank School  pays off and our students are reaping the benefits.  Please continue to work cooperatively with us as, together, we strive to provide your child with the best education possible.

Remember:  Choptank students truly are SHINING STARS!

Reading and Math News

Happy New Year!!!  January has been a flurry of activities and excitement.  As the middle of the school year approaches, we have been assessing the students and are very excited with the results  Kindergarten students are very excited because they have learned  the letters and sounds of the alphabet and are beginning to read.  New worlds are opening for them!

Continue to read with your child for at least 20 minutes every night.  Ask questions to see if he/she understands what was read, and encourage  him/her to read at a good pace and with accuracy.

Students who have met our mid-year math facts goal will be going to the YMCA pool in early February.  Continue to help your child study each evening and learn Math facts.

We will be going to the Dorchester County Pool (on Virginia Avenue) at the end of the school year so if your child has not reached the facts goal, it is not to late for our next pool trip.

Thank you for all you do to help your child continue to progress.

Mrs. Hanson
