Text Box: PDS News
We have said good-bye to Mrs. Ali Messick, our Salisbury University intern, who co-taught with Mrs. Sorrells and Mrs. Elliott in pre-k and kindergarten since the beginning of January. She is now at Sandy Hill, co-teaching in 4th grade and we wish her all the best! Another familiar face that we will miss seeing is Miss Megan Collins who has been with Miss Houghtaling in 1st grade and will now continue her intern experience at Sandy Hill in kindergarten. We wish them continued success!

A new face to 4th grade is Mrs. Katie Holbrook. Mrs. Holbrook is now with Mrs. Travis. Although she is new to 4th grade, she is not new to Choptank as she has been with Miss Cannon in 3rd grade. The teacher and students, and Mrs. Holbrook seem to be very happy!

We are welcoming Mrs. Christine Benefiel to 5th grade with Miss Dean. She has been at Sandy Hill co-teaching in 1st grade. She will be with us until the middle of May. She has many creative ideas and is eager to be with our 5th graders.

We also welcome Mrs. Donna Bloodsworth with Mrs. Owens in 1st grade and Mrs. Ashley Jones in 5th grade with Mrs. Tolley. They will be spending 1 day a week in these classes, assisting, observing, and teaching several classes.

Ms. Mary Loscomb from Chesapeake College will also be with Ms. Wheatley a few hours a week in 1st grade. Welcome to all.

Being a PDS school with Salisbury University and sharing a partnership with Sandy Hill has enabled our students, teachers, and SU interns the chance to share, learn, and continue to excel. It is a win-win situation for all!

Note Worthy News From Music

Choptank students have been pushing themselves harder than ever in math class. Our biggest push has been getting 3rd through 5th graders ready to the MSA test in April.  I am confident that our students will improve even more than last year.  They have been taking timed practice tests, reviewing difficult concepts, and learning new algorithms to help them be more successful.  First and second grade students have even started writing BCR ‘s (brief constructed responses).  These are short answer questions to math problems.  This will prepare them for third grade when they will be formally assessed using BCR’s on the MSA.  Please continue to make sure that your child is completing his/her math homework each night.  As always, thank you for all that you do to ensure that your child is successful in math class.

All – County Band -  Our fourth and fifth grade band has been preparing for the All – County Band Concert to be held on Thursday, May 1st.  The band members will practice during the school day. The  first year players will practice here at Choptank Elementary School; and the second year players will take a school bus to Sandy Hill Elementary School for their practice.  The bus will take the band students and bring them back to Choptank Elementary before their lunch break.

Our Choptank Spring Concert - Our spring concert will again be a full school concert.  The program will feature our fourth and fifth grade band members playing five selections and then the chorus consisting of Pre – K through fifth grade will finish the program with five choral selections.
