Text Box: I would like to thank all of the parents that donated favors for our Easter baskets. The children thoroughly enjoyed all of the “goodies”. Your contributions are deeply appreciated.
In April, we will be studying four themes. The first unit is entitled “Yum! Yum! Nutrition”. During this theme, the students will be learning about foods that help keep their bodies strong and healthy. Next, we will learn the meaning of “reduce, reuse, and recycle” as it applies to activities in our classroom in the unit named “Something from Nothing”. Then, we will be concentrating on shoes and discussing pairs, same, different and sorting throughout the theme called “On My Own Two Feet”. Lastly, we will be examining “Blowing in the Wind”. This unit addresses the characteristics of the wind and various ways we use the wind.
During May and June, we will be studying plants and animals. In the unit, “Roots and Shoots” we will be examining plants. The students will be using all of their senses to observe, predict, experiment, and draw conclusions. Next, we will be learning about farm animals and farm products. In “Zoo Clues”, the children will learn that zoo animals are different from pets and farm animals in the way they look, where they live, how they move, the sounds they make, and what they eat. In the next unit, we will examine insects and spiders. During this theme, we hope to foster an appreciation and respect for all life.
We will continue working on patterns, making sets of objects, expanding our vocabulary, retelling stories, learning new rhymes, naming the letters of the alphabet, identifying the sounds of the letters, writing our first name and numbers 1 to 5. Each day in their journals, the students practice writing their first name.
Please continue to read to your child daily. Have him/her tell you what is happening in the pictures. At the end of the story, have him/her tell you if he/she liked the story and explain why or why not.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN NEWS

KINDERGARTEN NEWS

Our Kindergarteners are “Buggy About Spring.”  They are on the lookout for bugs, birds, and flowers as they learn about spring.  As the children learn about and search for signs of spring where they live, they will continue to learn about the cyclic of the seasons.  The warmer weather allows many opportunities for children to blossom as they examine, and learn to respect and appreciate the ever-changing natural world within their own neighborhoods.

In an effort to ensure the success of each student, we have placed them into three reading groups.  The children are assigned according to their individual need or abilities.  We can not emphasize enough the  importance of working and reading with your child at home every night.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.  Near the end of the school year, every kindergartener will be assessed for placement in a first grade reading group.

Our focus in Math is on addition, subtraction and money and its value.  We will also concentrate on identifying equal parts of a whole and learning to tell time  to the hour and half hour.

We would like to thank you for your continued support in educating your child.  Earlier in the school year, we learned “It Takes a Village’ to raise a child.  We would like to wish everyone much success.  Have a safe and happy summer!
