The 2nd grade has gotten off to a super start this year in  Math.  Our tests grades have been very high. Please continue to check your child’s math homework.  The Parent Peek on the back of the math sheet will show you what  was taught.  Also continue to practice facts with your child.  They should as a minimum be able to do the addition facts test in 6 minutes by the end of January and subtraction by June.

In science we are studying the moon.  Your child has been asked to observe the moon and be ready to discuss what was seen in the sky at night and in the morning.

Writing for our students in September has been about ourselves.  Our next unit will be about animals, both imaginary  and real.  Please praise the writing efforts of your child when they bring them home.

Remember to read with your child nightly and complete Reading homework.  Many students also have spelling words to study.

In November, we are going to Blackwater Refuge.  This will be an incentive trip.  Expect information to come home with your child.

Welcome back  parents and students!!  We have already moved through the first 2 months of the school year.  We have many things that we would like to accomplish this year. 

In Math for term one:  we will be completing the following units: Statistics with Measurement, Decimals, Time and Money, and Multiplication.

In Social Studies:  we will work throughout the year learning all about Maryland.

In Science:  we have completed the first unit called Food Chains and Webs. 

We are sure the kids have come home talking about our Anoles (lizards)!

Thank you for making our first field trip a success!  The parents that went with us were a wonderful help. 

We are jumping in head first this year to prepare your child for MSA.  We encourage you to make sure the following things are happening EVERY NIGHT at home:

Completion of Math Homework

Completion of Reading homework

Study Math facts

If your child can do those three things every night, we

are confident that he/she will be a SHINING STAR AT CHOPTANK.

We are off to a great start here in third grade.  In  Math we are finishing up our unit on Subtraction.  Our next unit will be Time and Money.  Parents, please help familiarize your children with the different coins and bills.  Coming up on November 1, the third grade students will be heading to Horn’s Point for a field trip.  This trip will give students hands on experience and help enforce the concepts learned during our current science unit on soil.  We just want to remind parents and students that the Math and Reading homework need to be completed nightly.  We have a lot of great things in the works for the rest of the year, and look forward to their implementation.
