Congratulations to all of the pre-kindergarten students. They completed 100% of their September homework. What a wonderful way to begin their school career. The students have adjusted very well to the school routine. They are learning to interact appropriately with others by sharing, taking turns, and speaking in a friendly voice. Other skills that they are concentrating on include: speaking in sentences, rote counting, identifying numbers, counting objects, colors, shapes, sorting objects and writing our first name. We are planning a Fall Festival. More information will be coming soon. Please continue to read to your child daily. Thanks for your support. |

READING Don’t forget! The standard reading homework for the entire school is to read for 20 minutes! Please let us know that this is happening by having your child respond to what they have read by writing in his/her homework folder. It is best when you sign it as well, to let us know that the child is reading under supervision. MATH Unit 4: Adding Sums It up-In this unit students will begin adding 1-digit numbers up to the sum of 10. Please make sure they complete their homework every night to learn basic addition facts. Unit 5: Data and Me-First grade will be learning to sort, chart and graph data. But it’s never to soon to point out charts you see in everyday life such as lists, schedules, diagrams, etc. Unit 6: Investigating Time– We will also begin studying clocks. We will discuss time to the hour and half hour. Discuss what time they get up each morning and when they go to bed. SEASONAL CHANGES Please keep in mind that we will be going outside most days for recess this fall. Please have your child appropriately dressed. Also, have all jackets and coats labeled! REMINDERS 1. Please remember to check your child’s agenda and backpack every evening for important papers and homework that need to be read, signed or returned! 2. Empty old papers out of the bookbags. 3. Keep track of library books. 4. Be here on time to receive breakfast and address morning business.

We are thrilled to have your child in our kindergarten program this year at Choptank Elementary School. We have already completed four magnificent units of study. Your child is off to a marvelous start. We have implemented a new vocabulary curriculum to our reading program. We are ecstatic! Please reinforce the new vocabulary words with your child on a daily basis so they can get extra practice using the words. Your child has learned to recognize the name and sound of many alphabet letters. These pre-reading skills are essential to building a good foundation for effective reading. Our next unit of study will be “Cornucopia.” This unit is written to help kindergartners begin to see the why and how of seasonal changes and what those changes mean in terms of their own lives as well as the lives of plants, animals, and farmers. We hope that you will enjoy watching them reap an abundance of knowledge and wonder. Please remember to send in snack money ($1.00) each week and a towel or blanket for rest time. It is vital for you to complete homework assignments together daily. We encourage you to read with your child for at least 10 minutes and sign his/her agenda. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers. We would like to take this time to welcome Mrs. Deliah Johnson to our kindergarten team! |
