PHONICS BLITZ, published by Really Great Reading Company:
- 40 one-hour lessons that explicitly and systematically teach phonics concepts.
- Academic language is emphasized.
- Teaches phonics concepts so that students have the ability to read accurately.
- Students individually practice reading decodable text to demonstrate mastery of the phonics concepts taught.
- Teacher provides immediate, positive error correction as students read decodable text so that students develop the habit of reading accurately.
- Students practice reading non-decodable text orally, charting accuracy and rate, so that teacher and students can measure how skills learned in phonics lessons are transferring to content area text.
PHONICS BOOST, currently being developed by Really Great Reading Company. Expected to be published by early 2008.
- 80 lessons that explicitly and systematically teach phonics concepts.
- Academic language is emphasized, but is easier than in PHONICS BLITZ.
- Teaches the same phonics concepts and includes the same instructional procedures as PHONICS BLITZ, but lessons have a slower pace so students have more time to practice. (Students who qualify for PHONICS BOOST need more practice to learn to read accurately and at a reasonable rate than students in PHONICS BLITZ.)
- While PHONICS BOOST lessons are being developed, we are offering a complimentary set of Draft Lessons that can be copied and used for one academic year by any teacher who completes a PHONICS BLITZ or PHONICS BOOST workshop.
TARGETED READING LESSONS, currently being developed by Really Great Reading Company. Expected to be published by spring 2008.
- Lessons address phonemic awareness, early phonics skills, and develop sight word recognition.
- Lessons are in different format and much slower paced than Phonics Boost.
- Fluency and accuracy are emphasized, along with automaticity reading individual words.
- As TARGETED READING LESSONS are being developed, we will offer a complimentary set of Draft Lessons when they are available (expected to be year-end 2007). The Draft Lessons can be copied and used for one academic year by any teacher who completes a PHONICS BLITZ or PHONICS BOOST workshop.
